Asheville Brewing Super Hero 5K & Lil' Hero Fun Run

The Asheville Brewing Super Hero 5K & Fun Run close out the Saturday portion of the Asheville Running Experience with a bang. Dress up and channel your inner super hero at either our enclosed Fun Run course or at our 5K and party on the South Slope.

Thank you to everyone who supported this fun event.  We are especially grateful to our sponsors, bands, and volunteers for making it all possible.

The Asheville Brewing Super Hero 5K, Presented by Black Orthodontics, and the old Funktastick Fun Run are being combined into one event to allow all of our super heroes to dress up and be part of the evening fun on the South Slope.

We ask that all runners and walkers complete the course in 1 hour or less.

An aid station will be located at mile .6 & 2 of the 5K course.

Lil’ Hero Fun Run

The fun run course has been redesigned for this year so the entire course is within the street closure on Coxe Avenue.  Our tiniest participants will do a loop on the course in front of friends and family before finishing at the main finish line.

Super Dog Parade

New this year we will have a canine parade with a costume prize thanks to our friends at the Pet Vet on Patton.   Parade your pooch at 5:45 PM and then run with them.  All of our doggy participants will receive a Lemon Space Dog bandana from Asheville Brewing Company.


All Asheville Brewing Super Heroes 5K, Presented by Black Orthodontics, participants who register by August 30, 2017 will receive a custom shirt and other goodies.

All pre and post-race activities will take place on South Coxe Avenue, which will be closed to traffic. Post race refreshments will be provided by Earth Fare and South Slope brewers. Adjacent to the finish line will be our stage with live music and the awards ceremony.


Special, commemorative awards will be given to the first three male and female overall and top male and female masters of the 5K. Prizes will also be awarded to the first three in the following age groups:
12 and under, 13-15, 16-19, 20-24,25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79 and 80-Over
No ‘double-dipping’ in award categories

All finishers of the Fun Run will receive a finisher award.

The 5K race will utilize chip timing.  A timing chip will be on the back of your racebib, which should be worn on your front and visible at all times during the race.

The Fun Run is not timed.


City owned parking garages are located on Biltmore Avenue at the Aloft Hotel (5 blocks from event site) and at the corner of Otis and Patton Avenue (5 blocks from event site).  Street parking is available throughout the South Slope.  Do not park in private parking lots or in front of driveways as your car will be towed.


The Asheville Running Experience has a NO REFUND policy. However, we do offer partial discount codes for cancellations during our cancellation periods. If the event is NOT sold out, a discount code for 50% of your race registration fee will be offered until 30 days prior to the race date. If the event IS sold out, a discount  code for 100% of your race registration fee will be offered until 14 days prior to  the race date. Discount codes can be used to register for another Asheville Running Experience event and will be valid for 12 months after the event date.

You may transfer your registration to another participant up to 14 days prior to the race day with a $2 transfer fee. You may only transfer an entry in the same race.  Email your transfer request to with your original registration information, including confirmation number as well as the email address for the participant who will be taking your place. Emails must be received no later than Monday, September 11, 2017.


Live, unofficial results will be available during the race at the Results Tent.
