The Asheville Urban Odyssey is the most unique event of the Asheville Running Experience. It is a combination of an urban scavenger hunt and a game show. Teams of four will depart from our headquarters and follow a series of clues to both hidden and well known Asheville locations. At each location, a team member must complete a specific task before receiving their next clue. After a team completes its eighth task they will make their way back to the finish line for their final task. The use of smart phones is not only allowed but highly encouraged.
Teams of four will depart the starting point every 15 minutes starting at 12:00 PM and follow a series of clues to both obscure and well known Asheville locations.
At each location, a team member must complete a specific task before receiving their next clue (each team member will need to complete two tasks). After a team completes its eighth task they will make their way back to the finish line for their final challenge. The completion of the final challenge will constitute the finish time.
The use of smart phones is not only allowed but highly encouraged. Teams can phone a friend or ask passersby for assistance.
Teams must follow all traffic regulations.
Online registration for the 2017 event opens on Tuesday, November 15
Race Cap: There is a team race cap of 56 teams.
November 15, 2016-December 31, 2016 – $80 per team
January 1, 2017-August 30, 2017 – $100 per team
September 1, 2017-September 24, 2017 – $120 per team
The event will include all of the downtown Asheville and teams can expect to walk between 3 and 5 miles during their journey. Teams must follow all traffic regulations and those who don’t will be penalized (we will have spies all over the course).

All participants will receive a custom Asheville Urban Odyssey event shirt and other goodies.
Join us after you check in for a beer (first one is on us for those 21 and older) to celebrate with other teams on a journey well traveled at Hi Wire’s Hilliard Tasting Room.
Each member of the winning team will receive a $50 gift certificate to Frugal Backpacker
The clock will start once you receive the first clue and stop when you finish your final task at the finish line.
The Asheville Running Experience has a NO REFUND policy. However, we do offer partial discount codes for cancellations during our cancellation periods. If the event is NOT sold out, a discount code for 50% of your race registration fee will be offered until 30 days prior to the race date. If the event IS sold out, a discount code for 100% of your race registration fee will be offered until 14 days prior to the race date. Discount codes can be used to register for the 2018 event and will be valid for 12 months after the event date.
You may transfer your registration to another participant up to 14 days prior to the race day with a $2 transfer fee. You may only transfer an entry in the same race. Email your transfer request to firstname.lastname@example.org with your original registration information, including confirmation number as well as the email address for the participant who will be taking your place. Emails must be received no later than Monday, August 24, 2015.
