Beautiful Hickory Nut Gap in Fairview, North Carolina will be the site of the inaugural Drovers Road/Hickory Nut Gap 8K/15K on Saturday, September 1.  Both races will offer a combination of trail and dirt roads within in the Drovers Road community and on adjacent roads.  Following the races, participants will enjoy food and drink from Hickory Nut Gap Farms and other local vendors.

The Drovers Road Community, Hickory Nut Gap Farms and Glory Hound Events are excited to announce the inaugural Drovers Road & Hickory Nut Gap 8K/15K on Saturday, September 1.  Both races will be held on trail and dirt roads, including the historic Drovers Road.

Location

The start/finish and parking will be adjacent to the Old Sherrills Inn (50 Clarke Lane, Fairview), about 25 minutes south of Asheville.

Online registration is now open for our inaugural event and will close at 9:00 PM on Thursday, August 30.

Partners & History

This event is being produced in association with the Drovers Road Preserve, Hickory Nut Gap Farms, and Old Sherrills Inn.

  • The Drovers Road Preserve is a 190-acre private development in Hickory Nut Gap with 110 acres protected by a conservation easement surrounding its twenty-three homesites.  It has 5-7 miles of hiking trails, many of which will be used for this event.
  • Hickory Nut Gap Farm was created in 1916 and, along with Hickory Nut Gap Meats, has grown into one of the most recognized brands in Western North Carolina.  Our Friday Packet Pick Up will take place on the farm and they will providing the food and drink for post race.
  • This event will take place around the Sherrills Inn.  The Inn was built in the mid 1800’s and is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places and now operates as site for weddings and other celebrations.  Both races will start at the orchard above the old house and finish in the event space behind it.

Courses

Both races will run the same course with the 8K completing it once and the 15K, twice.  They will be run primarily on single-track trail with some dirt roads and one very small stretch of paved road (< .1 mile).

Stuff

Each pre-registered runner will receive a special, one-time race shirt to mark the occasion.  There may be shirts available to those who register on-site on race day.

Post-Race

Post-race food and drink be provided by Hickory Nut Gap Farms and other local businesses near the Old Sherrills Inn.

Awards

The awards ceremonies will take place near the finish line and food area. In both races overall awards will be given to the top 3 male/female and top male/female masters.  Age group awards will be given in the following age groups:  15 & Under, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79 and 80 & Over.

If you cannot stay for the awards ceremony, please ask a friend to pick it up for you.

Parking will be located near the Old Sherrills Inn.  Please follow the signs and instructions of the volunteers.

Refunds/Transfers

This event has a NO REFUND policy. However, we do offer partial discounts for those canceling during our cancellation periods.

If the event is NOT sold out, a discount code for 50% of your race registration fee will be offered until 7 days days prior to the race date. No discounts codes will be given within 7 days days before the event, if the event is not sold out.

If the event IS sold out, a discount code for 100% of your race registration fee will be offered until 5 days days prior to the race date. No discounts codes will be given within 5 days days before the event, if the event is sold out.

Partial discount codes are only available for cancellations of completed registrations. A registration is considered incomplete if payment was mailed in and has not yet been received. Discount codes can be used to register for the 2019 race and will be valid for 12 months after the event date.

The parking area and race venue is located 9.6 miles south of I-40 on Hwy. 74-Alt.
