The Mountain Air community near Burnsville and Glory Hound Events are excited to announce the inaugural Ascent at Mountain Air 5K on Saturday, October 14. This 5K road race will climb 1,800 feet, from the private community’s gates to the air strip on the top.
The Mountain Air Community near Burnsville, NC and Glory Hound Events are excited to announce the inaugural Ascent at Mountain Air 5K taking place Saturday, October 14. This 5K road race will climb 1,800 feet, from the private community’s gates to the air strip on the top. At 4,600 feet elevation, this will be the most spectacular finish line in Western North Carolina.
For those wanting less of a challenge, we will have a fun run/walk on the half-mile airstrip. Participants may go to the very end and see the amazing views or turnaround at any point.
Mountain Air is located off of Highway 19E in Burnsville just 45 minutes from Asheville and one hour from Johnson City.

Online registration has closed. You may register on-site Saturday at Mountain Air from 3:00 to 4:30 PM.
Race Cap: The 5K is limited to 200 participants.

The 5K is not for the faint of heart or spirit. The course is 1800’ of unrelenting climbing on paved roads from start to finish. The payoff is at the finish with unrivaled views of mountains and forests in the heart of the fall color season.

The Fun Run/Walk takes place entirely on the half-mile runway at the top of Mountain Air.
Packet Pickup/Late Registration
Saturday, October 14 – 3:00-4:30 PM – Main Gate Area
Each 5K runner will receive a special, one-time race shirt to mark the occasion.
For your convenience, we will have a bag drop area at the start area where you can leave a small bag. Prior to the start, we will take all bags to the finish line where you can claim them after the race.
We are planning for a fun post-race party complete with live music, food and local refreshments.
The awards ceremony will take place near the finish line area. Awards will be presented to the top ten male and female finishers for the 5K and include:
1st Place (m/f) – 2 night stay at Falling Leaf Lodge on the mountain top of Slickrock Village at Mountain Air ($400) value
2nd Place (m/f) – $100 gift card
3rd Place (m/f) – $75 gift card
Places 4-10 – Branded Mountain Air merchandise
If you cannot stay for the awards ceremony, please ask a friend to pick it up for you. Awards will not be mailed.
The race will utilize hand timing. Make sure your bib is on your front and viewable as you cross the finish line.
Parking will be located near the main gate at Mountain Air. Please follow the instruction of parking volunteers upon your arrival. Fun Run participants and spectators will be shuttled to the finish area prior to the 5K start. Shuttles will start rides from the finish area to the parking area at 6:00 PM.
The Ascent on Mountain Air 5K taking has a NO REFUND policy. However, we do offer partial discounts for those canceling during our cancellation periods.
If the event is NOT sold out, a discount code for 50% of your race registration fee will be offered until 7 days days prior to the race date. No discounts codes will be given within 7 days days before the event, if the event is not sold out.
If the event IS sold out, a discount code for 100% of your race registration fee will be offered until 5 days days prior to the race date. No discounts codes will be given within 5 days days before the event, if the event is sold out.
Partial discount codes are only available for cancellations of completed registrations. A registration is considered incomplete if payment was mailed in and has not yet been received. Discount codes can be used to register for the 2018 race and will be valid for 12 months after the event date.
