Lake Logan Multisport Festival Turns 11
Celebrating eleven years in 2017, The Lake Logan Multisport Festival returns to the Lake Logan Conference Center on August 5-6. Taking place just 45 minutes west of Asheville North Carolina, the festival features three races all sanctioned by USA Triathlon and all part of the North Carolina Triathlon Series managed by Set Up Events. Races include the Lake Logan International, Lake Logan Sprint, and the extremely popular Lake Logan Half Iron. For each race there are the options to race as an individual, team relay, or an Aquabike.
What makes the Lake Logan Multisport Festival so special is that each race offers some of the most breathtaking mountain scenery Western North Carolina has to offer. The races also include wet-suit legal swims in the heat of the summer, rolling bike courses that are flatter than most people would imagine in the mountains, and shaded running courses along the Pigeon River. As a bonus there is even onsite weekend accommodations that range from cabins and cottages to dorm style lodging; all include three full meals a day.
Being centrally located to the popular destinations of Waynesville and Asheville, NC there is also no shortage of things to do after race day. Make it a long weekend and plan on strolling the galleries and shops in downtown Waynesville, taking a scenic drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway, exploring the local food and beer scene, or just relaxing at one of the many spas in the area before you head home!
Here’s a breakdown of the 2017 Lake Logan Multisport Festival
Lake Logan Half Iron – Saturday, August 5
1.2 mile Swim, 56 mile Bike, 13.1 mile Run
The wet-suit legal swim starts near the main docks and finishes at the mouth of the West Fork of the Pigeon River, where the water temperature drops ten degrees. The 56-mile bike course follows most of the International racecourse and includes sections through the Town of Clyde and along the farmlands of northern Haywood County. The 13.1-mile, two loop run course, is an out-and-back along a two-lane, tree-canopied road along the river. It includes a 1-2% grade on the outbound leg, almost guaranteeing a negative split on the downhill inbound legs.
