Opening of Registration - 2012

Registration for seven Glory Hound Events managed races happening in 2012 opens this weekend.  

On Saturday, December 31,  registration opens for the Lake Junaluska Bunny Run 5K/10K (April 7), the French Broad Challenge Triathlon (May 26), the MedWest Triathlon (July 7) and Maggie Valley Moonlight Run (August 25).  Those registering for any of these races on either New Years Eve or New Years Day will receive a 20% discount off the entry fee.

Registration opens on New Years Day for the Shamrock 5K/10K on March 17, the MTA Triathlon at Lake James on May 19 and the Cherokee Harvest Half Marathon on September 29.

Power of Pink Results

Thank you to all of our athletes and volunteers who braved this morning's frigid temperatures to participate in today's races.  Results from the Pink 4-Miler and Pink Relay are posted on the events page under the Power of Pink.

Congratulations to Team MRO for winning the Pink Relay and smashing their own course record from 2009 by over 8 minutes, and our overall champions of the Pink 4-Miler, Chris Young of Asheville and April Barker of Hazelwood.

If you could not stay for the awards ceremony, you may pick up your award beginning on Monday from the Information Desk at Haywood Regional Hospital.


Lake James Water Temperature is 77 Degrees

Anyone worried about cold temperatures in Lake James for the MTA Triathlon on Saturday can relax.  The water temperature was taken this weekend and it read 77 degrees, perfect for racing.  USA Triathlon allows wet suits to be worn at 78 degrees and lower.  We will take further readings later this week and again on race morning and will announce them on the race web site and at the race venue.


Lake Junaluska Duathlon Results

Results are now posted for the 2011 Lake Junaluska Duathlon.  Congratulations to Teddy Park and Gail Kattouf for winning our third race at this amazing location.  The weather was perfect and the racing fast.  Thanks to our gracious host, the Lake Junaluska Conference & Retreat Center, our amazing volunteers - The Junaluskans and all of athletes and sponsors.


Prize Money Increased for Lake Logan races

The Todd Stien Memorial Fund has increased the total prize purse for the Lake Logan Multi Sport Festival to $2,500 for 2011.  $2,100 will be distributed at the Lake Logan International Triathlon on August 6 with the remaining amount awarded at the Lake Logan Sprint Triathlon on August 7.  This is the first time prize money has been awarded at the sprint race.

Asheville Race Registration News

The early entry fee for the Ramble Run at Biltmore Park expires at midnight Monday.  For race information and link to registration go to www.RambleRun.com.

Early registration for the 2011 Asheville Citizen-Times Half Marathon opens Tuesday, March 1 for one month.  Over 350 people registered for the half marathon and ensured themselves a spot in Asheville's most popular race.  Check out the new race web site at www.citizen-times.com/race for all the info on this year's event and link to registration.


Registration Open for Maggie Valley Moonlight Race

Registration is now open for the 30th running of the Maggie Valley Moonlight Race on August 27.  Hosted by the Maggie Valley Chamber of Commerce, this 8K road race will start and finish at the Maggie Valley Fairgrounds in the hear of Maggie Valley.

Registration Deadline Looming

Early registration periods will come to an end at midnight on Monday, January 31st for the Lake Logan Multisport Festival races, Lake Junaluska Duathlon, French Broad Challenge Triathlon, Enka Triathlon at Biltmore Lake and MedWest-Haywood Triathlon.  If you plan to race any of these events, now is the time to enter and save some money.


Lake Logan International Triathlon Selected As Special Qualifier

Glory Hound Events is pleased to announce that the Lake Logan International Triathlon, held on August 6, 2011, has been selected as USAT's Mid-Atlantic Special Qualifer for 2011. This event will qualify the top 33% per age group for the USAT Age Group National Championship that will take place on August 20, 2011 in Burlington, Vermont.

This is fantastic news for everyone associated with the event as it will bring introduce a new area of the country to Lake Logan and Western North Carolina and further increase the already tremendous competition at the race.

The Mid Atlantic Region is comprised of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, the District of Columbia and West Virginia.  This selection is for two years and will include the 2012 race.
