When the Asheville Citizen-Times decided not to hold their long time September races, we knew we wanted to bring back the popular half marathon at some point. We also knew we wanted it to be an experience of what it is to run, love and experience Asheville, hence the name.
We also wanted as many people as possible to enjoy the experience. We’ve attempted to honor the old AC-T Half by utilizing much of that old course for the ARX Half Marathon. In cooperation with our friends at Asheville Brewing Company, we are moving the popular Super Hero 5K to our lineup on Saturday and think the warmer weather will encourage even more people to dress up and harness their inner super hero. We also wanted a trail race because that is very much a part of what it is like to run in Asheville. Chasing Trail will give everyone that experience in the shadow of downtown. And of course, we wanted something for our smallest runners so the Funktastick Fun Run will start our Saturday afternoon races.
We’ve already told you about The Incredible Asheville Urban Odyssey and know this unique event will allow runners and non-runners alike to learn and experience our great city.
All of this preceded by The Happening at New Mountain. Asheville is a different place and so wanted our packet pickup party to be different as well – not the typical four-walled race expo. It will be here on race Friday where you can pick up your packet or register for races but you will also see performance art, meet our sponsors and vendors and even grab a bite from a food trucks or a beer from one of brewing partners.
All and all, it will be an experience you don’t want to miss.
