The Ascent at Mountain Air 5K Announced for October
The Mountain Air community near Burnsville, NC is proud to announce the inaugural Ascent at Mountain Air, an uphill 5K race, on Saturday, October 14. The race will take runners from the front gates on a 1,800-foot climb to the runway at the top of the community. Upon arriving at the finish line, runners and their guests, will enjoy unrivaled views of the Blue Ridge Mountains during the post-race celebration.
The 5K-race is not for the feint of heart or spirit. It will challenge the mightiest of runners to reach the finish line at 4,430 feet. To reward the best of the best, the Ascent at Mountain Air will award custom made art to the top ten male and female finishers, a departure from most races.
For those wanting less of a challenge, The Ascent at Mountain Air will have a fun run/walk on the half-mile airstrip. Participants may go to the very end and see the amazing views or turnaround at any point.
“We are excited to open up our community to runners from across the region for this one-of- a-kind event,” said Steve Arnold, Community Manager. “Mountain Air is a unique place and this event will attract a unique segment of the running population. Those who compete and finish will experience the most spectacular finish line in the region at the height of the fall color season.”
Mountain Air is located just west of Burnsville – 45 minutes from Asheville and one hour from Johnson City/Kingsport.
Online registration opens May 1 and is limited to two hundred 5K runners. For information about the event and link to registration visit The Ascent at Mountain Air website. The event is being produced by Glory Hound Events of Asheville.
