The Asheville Running Experience Returns For A Fifth Year

2019 Asheville Running Experience

Returning for its’ fifth year, the Asheville Running Experience has something for everyone. Whether you’re a roadie, a trail runner or someone looking for an adventure (and a little movement!) this weekend of events is for you. Taking place September 20-22 in Asheville, NC, the Asheville Running Experience consists of 6 events – the Superhero 5K/Super Villain 10K & Super Walk, Presented by Black Orthodontics; the Chasing Trail 8K, Presented by Second Gear, Super Hero Sidekick Training Camp, and the Asheville Urban Odyssey Presented By Orange Theory Fitness. Kicking it all off on the Friday night is the Happening at the Salvage Station; which is one part packet pickup/late registration, one part race expo and then one part social gathering.

One noticeable change in the format for this years ARX is that on Saturday the Super Hero 5K, Super Villain 10K, and the Chasing Trail 8K all run concurrently. The Super Hero 5K/Super Villain 10K will start and end at the Salvage Station in the River Arts District. The Chasing Trail 8K will take place just up the road, at Richmond Hill Park. After the trail event, runners will be encouraged to join the other racers down the road at the Salvage Station for the post race party. Racers (21 & up will be treated to a beer from Asheville Brewing)

Also this years ARX will offer more for all ages and sizes. Anyone wanting a shorter distance can participate in the inaugural Super Walk taking place just before the Super Hero 5K/Super Villain 10K on Saturday. This easy & flat 1-mile course is for all levels and a great excuse for anyone to get dressed up as their favorite super hero or super villain. Our youngest, aspiring super heroes will be able to test their skills in the Super Hero Sidekick Training Camp created by Sun Soo Martial Arts. For $5 they can experience a unique hero themed obstacle course full of challenges & surprises.

On Sunday, one of Asheville’s most unique events takes place. The Asheville Urban Odyssey is part urban scavenger hunt and part game show, where teams of four will depart from our headquarters at Urban Orchard on the South Slope and follow a series of clues to both hidden and well-known Asheville locations. At each location, a team member must complete a specific task before receiving their next clue. After a team completes its eighth task they will make their way back to the finish line for one final challenge. After the race all team members (21 & up) will be treated to a FREE half pour of cider from Urban Orchard.

The Asheville Running Experience is co-produced by Glory Hound Events & Kick-It Event Management, who bring together their 20+ years of race production experience for this one great weekend.
