Ascent At Mountain Air 5KFall in Western North Carolina is definitely best known for leaf-peeping, but it’s also a great time for racing. And there’s no shortage of races in Asheville and the surrounding mountain towns. Taking place Saturday, October 16, the private community of Mountain Air near Burnsville, NC, will once again host the Ascent At Mountain Air 5K. Offering one of the most challenging (and unique courses), this 5K race climbs 1800 ft. It also has one of the best finish lines in Western North Carolina, a private airstrip on the top of the mountain. At 4600 ft and a nearly 360 degree view of the surrounding mountains, there’s no shortage of fall colors to be seen. And what makes this year’s race even more exciting, there will be a $150 cash award to the male and/or female who breaks the course record for the Open, Masters (40-49), and Grand Masters (50&Over) divisions.
