DESCRIPTION:Cancer Active proudly presents the 5th Annual Not-A-Sprint Ultra Races\, an endurance event that welcomes all — from elite ultra runners chasing 50+ miles to walkers soaking in the spirit of community and purpose. Whether you’re pushing for a PR or pacing yourself through your first endurance challenge\, this event is Not-A-Sprint.\n  \nHeld on the scenic and flat Thermal Belt Rail Trail\, this 8.34-mile out-and-back paved course starts and finishes at the Pavilion on Park Square (POPS) in Forest City. Aid stations are well-stocked\, the course is low on elevation (only 95 ft over the entire loop!)\, and shade covers about 35% of the route to help with end of Summer heat.\n  \nTo learn more about Cancer Active or any of these events\, please visit www.becanceractive.org.\nWho Should Race?\nExperienced ultrarunners: Test your endurance with a shot at 50 miles or more. DESCRIPTION:Mountain Air and Glory Hound Events are excited to welcome everyone to the 10th anniversary of the Ascent on Mountain Air 5K on the evening of Saturday\, September 19\, 2026.  This 5K road race climbs 1\,800 feet\, from the community’s main gate near Burnsville to the private air strip on the top.  At 4\,600 feet elevation\, this is the most spectacular finish line in Western North Carolina.\n2026 Race Date: Saturday\, September 19 – 5:00 PM\nRegistration \nOnline registration will open Friday\, May 1 and close at 9:00 PM on Thursday\, September 17.  We will have walk-up registration on race day. \nBeneficiary \nAll proceeds from this year’s event benefit the Mountain Air Community Fund. \nLocation \nMountain Air is located off of Highway 19E in Burnsville just 45 minutes from Asheville and one hour from Johnson City. \n  \n  \n\n

You do NOT access the parking area via the airport campus. You will access Pinner Road from Glenn Bridge Road. \nNew for 2026: All runners and spectators will be required to go through a security screening prior to boarding a shuttle or accessing the race/event venue.  Look for a Security Screening tent in the parking area near the shuttle stop. Please keep personal items to a minimum; small or clear bags are recommended.
